McCovey Cove

We went to see the Giants play and stopped in McCovey Cove before hand. We looked at the Junior Giants field, the statue of Willie McCovey and the bay. It was a great place to spend some time after a long car ride......

He went down the hole....

At the end of our tour of the California Cavern, the tour guide said that she needed a volunteer. Steven volunteered and was chosen (he was the only volunteer with parents who said ok...) to go down the hole. At the bottom of the hole was a space about the size of an economy car.

The tour guide went down first...... explaining as she went how your foot has to touch this rock to stabilize yourself on the way down.
Then Steven got ready to go down and at about this point he was changing his mind..... mainly because his foot couldn't find the rock....

According to Steven going down in the hole was the only interesting part, the rest was boring.

California Caverns

Our last day trip of the summer... just before school started. Jonathan took the day off and we
headed to the central valley. Just 9 miles past San Andreas is the California Cavern. It is a series
of caves. Underground in the caves is a constant 51 or so degree's ... a nice change from the 98 degree's it was outside that day!

Sunday, August 12th 7:30 p.m.

I took the boys to see their first musical production --Annie at Music Circus. We went with the Bledsoe's and the boys had a great time.
Steven & Jack both sat, silent, throughout the play. They enjoyed the music and the story. At intermission, Jack had a hot dog and Steven had a Merlino's freeze (which he stood in line by himself to get).

The Music Circus has changed alot over the years. I can remember going in high school & college and paying $10 to sit on a folding type chair, behind a pole --back then it was theatre in the round that took place in a tent with little air movement in 100 degree weather. The shows are all summer long. But it was live theatre, and I lived for it. Now you pay $40 a ticket and sit in a gorgeous theatre in the round, in plush seats with lots of air conditioning. A much more luxurious experience, but the play is still king. It is why we go, it is why I return, year after year --to see the productions and feel the energy.

What a wonderful experience to share with my sons!

3rd Grade

Jackson is in 3rd Grade this year. He has Mrs. Weidkamp, who was also Steven's 3rd grade
teacher. There is some positive in the familiarity of that for me, and I think for him too.
He seems to like his class. He was disappointed that no one from his class last year that he
is friends with is in his class this year -but he came home the first day having made a new friend!

Jack is now a sports lover. He likes to watch baseball and basketball. He likes to play Baseball
Mogul on the computer and knows all about Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willie McCovey.
He wears sports shirts often and roots for the teams when they play.

I never thought it would happen. I expected him to always be neutral about sports --
but I guess I was wrong.

MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!!

Steven is almost 11 and attends 6th grade at Silverado Middle School. It is just down the street from the house, so he walks to and from, sometimes with friends, sometimes on his own. He has become so independent since school started.... grabbing his backpack the other morning at 7:26 a.m. (he needs to leave by 7:35 a.m.) giving me a kiss and saying he was off to school! I was shocked and truthfully a little sad that he didn't need me. But I couldn't be more proud of him as he is growing into such a great guy.

School is fun! They get to change classes and change clothes for P.E. They offer multitudes of food choices in the lunchroom. None of his best friends are in his classes, but he is making new ones!

School starts at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.

One week of school has gone by..

It's strange to have the boys gone all day again for school. Now they are at 2 different schools with two different schedules. Both have changed so much in the past week, or maybe I have just started to notice the changes.....

We had a pretty easy summer. We spent alot of time toghether, just hanging out at home. We went to San Francisco, Rivercat games, a Giants game, California Caverns and just had a lazy time. I can't believe how quickly it went or how slow it seemed .....

We watched alot of baseball on TV as Barry Bonds chased the record. It was so nice to sit around together watching the games. Jack is even interested now, which added to the fun. We are Giants fans to the core -wish we could have been there when he hit the big one!
