Jack waited all year for this! Finally, it was his turn to be the Husky of the Month. He got called to the front during the assembly by his teacher -Mrs. Moersfelder. Mr. Simon (our principal) shook his hand and gave him the certificate. He also got free dinner coupon for Mimi's Cafe -one of his favorite places to eat (mom's too!). We are so proud of him and happy he got to be recognized for his good behavior and attitude in first grade. 

More Disneyland

The boys were all ears for the 50th year anniversary celebration. They wore their ears proudly, and much longer than I could have ever expected. Jack was one tired kid at the end of the day --and able to talk his daddy into giving him a ride.

This was our first visit to Tom Sawyer Island -the boys loved it. The weather was nice that day and they had a great time climbing and seeing the Island --now, why did we not go there sooner? 

Disneyland

In April we spent a glorious 5 days at Disneyland. The boys loved California Screaming --it was their favorite ride. The weather was ok most of the trip -but one day it was rainy and cold and miserable. The rest of the time is was just drizzly and in the high 60's and low 70's. We brought ponchos from home -they didn't last long and then the boys were back out in just their sweatshirts and loving every minute of it.

 

4th Grade Field Trip

Steven --age 9 and 3/4

4th grade is the year our kids study California history and so it seems that every 4th grade class in our district goes to Coloma for their field trip. It is about an hour and fifteen minutes by school bus --over windy, mountain roads. The town has many buildings left from the gold rush and is the place where gold was first found in California in the 1800's by James Marshall (I think that was his name...) We got to walk around the town, enjoy a picnic lunch and then an icee. We panned for gold at a roadside store with a guide named "broken toe" who reeked of alcohol at 11 a.m.! Steven and his best friend Josh were together in our group along with three girls from their class and Josh's grandma -Trish. We had a pretty nice day -although the girls were teasing and picking on Josh so much -it seemed mean. As the mom of boys, and someone whose friends mainly have boys I was caught off guard by some of the girls behaviors. The were just being girls, like we say the boys will be boys. But wow, did it make me stop and pick my jaw up off the floor.
Near the end of the day we realized there was a monument to James Marshall. The boys wanted to go there --it was a 3/4 mile hike all up-hill! The girls wanted to go souvenir shopping. The boys won and we headed up the hill. After about 1/4 mile we reached an old church and cemetery. There one of the girls felt faint, so she & Trish waited for us as we climbed the hill. I couldn't breathe and wasn't quite sure I would make it up the hill -but the kids were practically running. When we got to the picnic area near the top I told the kids they could get wet in the water fountain if they would just let me sit and breathe for 2 minutes (after i drank lots of water). So here is Steven all wet --accomplished with just a water fountain and determination.




This is the monument at the top of the long, steep hill. When we got there the kids say "this is it?" and couldn't believe it wasn't more exciting. Of course they enjoyed the view and the explanation that the statue is pointing to the spot where the gold was discovered.

It was a great day --beautiful weather in the mid 80's and fun adventures. We finished off with a BBQ dinner in the park. Then Steven and I had to rush off to get to his baseball game. He missed playing with his friends and riding the bus back so we could make the game. 

Tiger Scouts tell it like it is!

Jack's Tiger den went to the KCRA experience at Arden Fair Mall in March. The local television station broadcasts the noon news from the mall Monday thru Friday. We went on a weekend and they let the kids read the news and it was recorded to a DVD. It was a great time and the boys learned alot about how the news is made. Including reading from the teleprompter and the different cameras. 

I know it's been forever!

Sorry it's been a long time since I updated the BLOG. My laptop was wonky and had to be sent back to be fixed and all my stuff got moved to Jonathan's computer. I haven't been able to load my pictures until this week and I kept putting off posting waiting for hte pictures. Soooooooo, get ready for some major posting! My goal is to add a post every day until I catch up!
